Image removed. We love winter here in Mumbles, Gower and the wider South Wales area: yes, it’s colder, and yes, it can rain, but all that adds to the mood and the natural beauty. And there’s plenty on offer, indoors and outdoors, over the festive period to do everything and anything that takes your fancy.

Perhaps participate in, or spectate at, one of the Christmas Day Wild Swims. You’ll find hardy souls braving the sea at the beaches of Rotherslade and Caswell near Mumbles on Christmas morning. Go west to the see the Pembrey Walrus Dip on the beautiful beach at Cefn Sidan or go east to witness thousands enter the sea in the 55th annual Porthcawl Swim.

You don’t have to wait until, Christmas Day. The fun starts early in this part of the world with most of our top dining establishments offering festive menus from the 1st of December and many offering Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Eve special packages if you want time out from the kitchen this year. We recommend 3 AA Rosette Beach House Restaurant, right on the beach at Oxwich,Image removed. www.beachouserestaurant.co.uk Bistrot Pierre, Mumbles overlooking the sweep of Swansea Bay, www.bistrotpierre.co.uk/locations/mumbles or the traditional King Arthur Hotel on the green at Reynoldston, Gower, www.kingarthurhotel.co.uk who are also doing a ‘Curry and Carols’ evening on the 19th December.

If you’ve got kids in tow, then a visit to Swansea’s award-winning Waterfront Wonderland in the Museum Green is a must. Here you’ll find all the fun of the fair, a giant wheel, festive food, an ice rink, Santa’s Grotto from mid-November until early January. Or if it’s sparkle and cheer you’re after, then kick off the festivities with a Christmas Celebration Concert at Swansea’s iconic Brangwyn Hall on 16th December.

You might just want to find space in the natural outdoors (or blow the cobwebs away!) – and as the UK’s first AONB, Gower’s got plenty of that. Walk deserted beaches along our unique coast-hugging path or gather fir cones in our wonderful woodlands, you’ll be spoiled for choice.
