Description

The ultimate romantic getaway, one of only 2 properties in Pwll Du Bay (pronounce ‘ll’ by putting your tongue in the ‘L’ position and blow hard , Du is pronounced as in -  Dee), Ship Cottage offers simple accommodation and the chance to escape the hustle and stress of everyday life and wake up in your very own (well almost!) secluded bay to the sound of the sea.

Pwll Du is situated in the heart of The Gower Peninsula, Britain's first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). This beautiful, picturesque beach has history rich in smuggling and quarrying and is a haven to walkers, artists and nature lovers and considered by many as Gower's best kept secret. Just a stone's throw from the beach (literally you can throw a stone from your balcony to the beach) previously a pub built to keep the quarry workers from getting too thirsty.

THERE IS NO VEHICULAR ACCESS TO THE PROPERTY OTHER THAN VIA THE OWNER'S 4X4 LANDROVER. In very extreme cases, to add to the adventure of reaching your destination sometimes the small river floods and then access is by foot only via the beach or a woodland path (these routes add a 10 minute journey to the arrival). N.B. Guests leave their car in a residential area 1.1 miles from the property. The owners will collect you from the meeting point on arrival and transport you to your destination.

Guests are welcome to bring their own 4x4 if they are confident to drive off road and be liable for their own car. The track is rough and steep and cars may get scratched-the owner is happy to talk you through the access route.

Reviews

A magical place made all the more special by its inaccessibility. Kath kindly sent a video of the track to enable us to decide whether we wanted to use our own 4x4, which we did. This cottage is perfect for dogs as it is right on the beach and there are wonderful walks. Perfection!

Mrs W,

Absolutely loved our stay. Booked for next year on our first full day there. The property was like staying in my dream property. Amazing location to the beach where the dogs and us spent many hours exploring. The owner is a wonderful host and super quick to answer any questions. The lane down is only accessible by driving a 4x4 and not for a nervous driver (or passenger). You also must be aware of the river you have to drive through and how deep it is. But when you arrive at the property the drive is well worth it.

Mrs O,

amazing cottage, perfect location with sensational views across the bay. perfect for accessing the bay and the surrounding bays along the costal path. Really comfortable and well appointed cottage with everything we could have wanted provided. we look forward to returning soon.

Ms Jen M,

Gorgeous cottage in idyllic location. Lovely hosts and would highly recommend to anyone 100%

Mrs Caroline P,

Location

Bishopston is located in the Gower peninsula and lies at the head of Bishops Wood and Bishopston Valley about 5miles south west of the City of Swansea. The village nestles just above the cliff tops of the South East Gower Coast and claims three popular beaches of its own, Brandy Cove, Caswell, and Pwll-du.
