Gower was the first place in Britain to be designated an area of outstanding natural beauty. Blessed with dramatic beaches and coastline, lush countryside and pretty villages, this 18 mile long peninsular is the perfect visitor destination.
Beaches are routinely awarded the coveted Blue Flag and the choice is simply superb. Caswell Bay, close to the village of Mumbles, is popular with surfers and families.
The spectacular Three Cliffs Bay, one of the most photographed beauty spots in the UK, links westwards with Oxwich, a vast expanse of sandy beach. Flanked by dunes, it boasts a hotel and water sports club. Well served too are the family beaches of Port Eynon and Horton (recently voted Britain's Best Beach).
Quiet and impressive is Rhossili Bay where at one end Worms Head rears majestically out of the sea and can be visited at low tide. A water sports enthusiasts paradise is Llangennith. This gigantic beach with endless dunes is fringed by a typical Gower village complete with the Kings Head pub and surf shop.
Inland, Gower is just as appealing, particularly to walkers. At the centre, the lofty moorland Cefn Bryn, Gowers highest point, affords superb views. The King Arthur Hotel with pub and restaurant sits on the edge of the green at Reynoldston.
Other attractions include the Gower Heritage Centre and Gower Inn nestled in Parkmill valley. Theres an 800 year old working water mill and 70 acres of peaceful Parc le Breos in which to walk, hire bikes and try out pony trekking.
